Tockay Gecko
Most reptiles are silent, but the distinctive call of the male tokay gecko (Gekko gecko) is hard to mistake. As one of the largest forest geckos, this colorful spotted reptile calls out with a repeated long, guttural “tok-tok-tokeeh”. Of course it is also well established in many rural and urban Thai households as well. Active at night, these geckos prefer forests and rocky outcrops and tend to sit and wait for beetles, termites and other prey to pass by. Normally solitary this particular tree was home to at least 5 of the reptiles in the same tree hole - located close to the Huay Nam Yen waterfall in Pang Sida National Park.
