The PADI Underwater Photographer course |
We have had a few requests locally to enquire if we teach the PADI Underwater Photographer course. Unfortunately we do not offer this course although having reviewed the current materials we feel it is a good offering for beginners and well put together.
Having taken the "old" course many moons ago we were somewhat disappointed but the new
course, updated and released in 2005, is a very good package and we now recommend it for beginners.
We do advise that you SERIOUSLY check out the credentials of the instructor offering you the course though. Underwater photography can only be taught by someone who practices U/W photography rather than someone who teaches diving.
If the instructor offering the course is not a practicing UW photographer we strongly advise against you signing up for the course with them. Under such circumstances you would not be much worse off just buying the instruction materials and reading it yourself because the instructor is unlikely to be able to offer you good and relevant advice on any of the issues you will need personal clarification on, including equipment advice, purchasing advice and specialized knowledge on issues such as artistic interpretation, post processing, computing, resourcing, photography travel locations, indepth macro techniques, indepth WA techniques, competitions, publication, etc, etc. What do we recommend?
1. The PADi course with an approved instructor who practices U/W photography
